X RAYS

What are X-rays?

X-rays are quick and painless diagnostic tests that generate images of your internal body parts. During the test, electromagnetic waves also referred to as X-ray beams, are sent into your body to create the image.    Your body absorbs the X-ray beam in varying amounts based on the density of the body part being evaluated. Dense body parts, such as your bones, absorb more of the X-ray beams than less dense body parts, such as your lungs. When you look at your X-ray image, your bones show up as white images, while your lungs are black. Fatty tissue appears as varying shades of gray.

What happens during an X-ray?

X-rays are a safe diagnostic test. Many people worry about X-rays because of radiation exposure. However, you’re only exposed to low amounts of radiation during the diagnostic test and the benefits of the test far outweigh the risks.

However, X-rays aren’t recommended during pregnancy. Though the risk of radiation exposure to your baby is limited, the team may recommend an ultrasound instead if you need diagnostic imaging.

Cosmopolitan health & medspa is a full-service family medicine practice dedicated to providing high-quality health care to every patient, including needed X-rays. For an appointment, call the office.
